SL-V-M-NO2-E
2-9 Alert Output
The alert output is a NON-SAFETY-RELATED function.
The amount of light being received decreases as build-up collects on the surface of the SL-V or as
machine vibrations cause the beam axes to misalign. If the received light decreases enough, the
machine may suddenly stop because the OSSD turns to an OFF state due to beam interruption. The
alert output simply informs external, non safety-related devices that the amount of received light is
decreasing. The alert output simply informs external, non safety-related devices that the amount of
received light has been decreased for more than the alert output monitoring time.
The default setting of the alert monitoring time is 5 seconds, but it can be changed through the SL-VH1S.
Alert output is not allowed to be used as a safety output for safety-related control system. This
output should never constitute a part of a safety-related control system. Usage of this function
as safety output may result in significant harm to the machine operators, including serious
injury or death.
Wiring
Regardless of using an NPN or a PNP cable, the SL-V alert output can be connected to PNP and NPN
devices. Refer to the time charts mentioned in this manual because the alert output logic is different
depending on the connected device.
Conditions when the amount of light received is decreasing
When the amount of light received on every beam axes is 100% or more for 5 seconds* or more.
When the amount of light received on one or less beam axis is 140% or less.
* The time can be changed through the SL-VH1S.
Conditions when the amount of light received is not decreasing
Any of the following condition must be fulfilled.
When the amount of light received on two or more beam axes is 140% or more for 5 seconds* or more.
When the power is restored to the SL-V.
When the SL-V is in the lockout condition.
* The time can be changed through the configuration software SL-VH1S.
